Taryn Talks
Taryn,
It feels like an itch in the middle of your back. Or your feet are fidgeting. Or maybe it's a thought of "you need to be doing something more, or else you're lazy!"
Restlessness is a thing. It can wreak havoc on your sense of well-being if your self-worth is wrapped up in always doing in order to feel worthy or to feel appreciated.
How do I know this?
Because I have lived it, heck, I live with it still! [It's a practice] What I am celebrating is that my restlessness is shifting into a new way of being. You know how a hermit crab needs to find a bigger shell when they have outgrown their current one? I think I have outgrown an old way of being rooted in restlessness.
I was talking to my coach recently about how I was feeling out of sorts. Kind of Blah. It wasn't that I was unhappy. It just a feeling that i couldn't quite name and didn't recall experiencing in any recent memory of mine. It was bizarre. It felt uncomfortable.
… It was a sense of CALM!
For the last 9 years, my life has been a swirl of chaos through a divorce, single parenting, training in a new career, launching a business while working full time in corporate, blending a family, Covid, etc. There has been so much DOING for a bigger vision, that I have forgotten what I like to do for fun, just for me! For example, I used to scrapbook, sew, cook, dance, read novels, paint, garden, hike, and run. Small spurts of fun when I had a few hours of free for just me.
Now I realize something has shifted.
By continually assessing what I want and don't want, I make conscious choices which creates a sense of calm in my life.
News Flash! ⚡ I am creating a life I love! A state of calm opening my capacity to focus more on what fills me with joy and happiness. I make fewer decisions from a place of what I should be doing and instead I make decisions based on what I want to do!
Calm is a new shell for me to try on and adjust to, so it does feels strange. I believe I am up for the challenge of figuring out what my 'fun' playlist is so I can select from it when I have an hour or two just for me. It isn’t selfish; it's self-care. Share with me something fun I should consider adding to my 'Fun' playlist. Maybe you can join me in creating the fun!
Would you like to experience creating a life you love? Where you have more opportunities to do soemthing from your 'fun' playlist instead of worrying about everything you are not doing?
Share with me something from your FUN playlist. Don't have one? Take time this summer to create your personalized fun list. Tip: Think back to when you were a kid... What did you love to do?
Wishing you all the best in this messy and imperfect world,

This winter I navigated through yet another series of life transitions: Grief, business ownership, step-parenting, and being a supportive partner. What I love about the title and context of the book "Life Is In The Transition" by Bruce Feiler is that he highlights how LIFE is happening in the moments of transition. Life keeps going and there is a conscious choice on how each of the people sharing their story decided to create from their change rather than react to the term Bruce coined, "Life Quake". I believe that it's a choice for how someone experiences their transistion and it doesn't have to mean that the world stops.
Did you know that the average person experiences more than 30-40 Life Quakes in their lifetime? That's a lot! For me, it means there are numerous opportunities to build up a toolkit of resiliency skills for when the life quake happens. That allows for more ease and flow when in states of transistion. I love recommending this book to my clients because all of them are navigating through a life transition of some sort, whether it is their career, parenting, or relationships. They all want to Create a Living they love instead of getting by with making a living that gets them by.
